THE PAINTER WITH GOLDEN TONES

Lampros Psyrrakis, when he completed his academic studies and returned from London in 1997, carries out his first one man show, at Kalfayan gallery hosted at the basement of 72 mitropoleos st. downtown Thessaloniki. This event marked an almost 17 year colaboration. In November of 1998 inaugurated the exhibition with ironical title, "The painter with golden tones". Thepaintings which were displayed, was a production of last three years and were done basicaly in London. They are early works, obviously inspired by the flavour of mid 90s in London, where the influence of Y.B.A.s was still strong. So you can see hints of Damien Hirst and Gary Hume successors of Italian transavagarde artists and German neowild movement. But at the same time these works condense the principals which L. Psyrrakis will develope with diligence and persistence in the years to come. They are annoying images balance at the edge of high painting and handwork as a spiritual activity performed by monks. Its worthy saying that in three works, for first time appear the small glass beads, which will lead to the series of "Masterpieces". The orange cover catalogue was published with text written by  art historian Mr. Haris Savvopoulos. A manifeso text by L. Psyrrakis was also included.
